Churchville Senior Center: CSC Preparing for Move to SSC
The Churchville Senior Center has been busy since the VPAS Board of Directors approved the recommendation to close the Center at their July 24 Board meeting; the last day of CSC services will be August 30. Center members will start receiving services at the Staunton Senior Center (SSC) on September 5 to include shopping at Wal*Mart one day a week and participating in programs two other days per week.
Following CSC Van Driver Gib Pullin’s resignation on August 30, SSC staff quickly pulled together to see how they could provide transportation for Churchville members to the Center. SSC Van Driver Chris Gienger drove the CSC route and found that he could pick up Churchville members after he finished his morning Verona route and could easily take members to Wal*Mart on Mondays. This was great news! SAW Regional Director Jenn Chestnut met with CSC members to review what the new pick up schedule to SSC might look like and to gain their feedback on how to improve it. Members look forward to meeting Chris on August 15 and to drive the route again with Gib that afternoon.
Staff is also in the process of cleaning the CSC of its belongings. Many items will be used at SSC and Waynesboro Senior Center, while others will be donated. This process will continue throughout August and into the first week of September.
Members of CSC who have not participated in a while, organizations who have volunteered their time and talents, and other members of the community will receive a letter the week of August 13 describing the closing of the center and the continuation of services at SSC.
Lastly, a ceremony will be held at CSC for active members on August 30, 1:30p with former CSC Local Council Chairwoman Rev. Kim Tripplet of Saint Peter Lutheran Church providing the closing remarks.
