East Rockingham Senior Center: Vision Loss/Vision Related Services Presented at ERSC

Debby Austin, Staunton Regional Manager/Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist, Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI), visited the ERSC for the first time on March 7 to discuss vision loss and vision related services offered by her agency.

A total of 21 members and 7 guests, including two members of the ERSC Local Council, were in attendance for Ms. Austin’s 60-minute talk. Ms. Austin spoke about eye diseases and the services that DBVI offers to individuals. The majority of the services, she noted, are free of charge. She explained that DBVI representatives meet with people of all ages in their homes to assess their needs, and she also told us that anyone can refer people to her agency.

After her formal presentation, Ms. Austin distributed business cards and brochures regarding the types of services offered by DBVI, and several members and guests requested a follow-up home visit.
